존대 형태소 ‘-시-’의 의미와 문법

The basic and general understanding about Korean honorific morpheme ‘-si-’ is that it is subject honorific expression. But all the usages of it do not agree with this general conception. Namely, it seems likely that some usages are used to honour locative or genitive noun phrases. Moreover some honorific subjects cannot be honoured by this morpheme. If this kind of usages cannot be taken for exceptions, we should find out the true nature of it, by which we can explain them as well. In this paper I reexamined these questionable usages, focussing on so called dual subject sentences. Despite of this process, I can still say that ‘-si-’ is subject honorific morpheme on condition that we should modify the concept of the subject. That is to say, only the subject which meets not only grammatical condition but also semantic condition as a subject, can be honoured by ‘-si-’. To reach this conclusion, I need a proposition and I should revise a rule about complex sentence. The proposition is that so called the dual subject sentence is a complex sentence with predicate clause and the first noun phrase is the subject of matrix clause. I should also revise the rule that there is a barrier between matrix and embedded clauses in a complex sentence like follows. Namely the barrier is made by clause marker, so there is no such barrier in the complex sentence with predicate clause, because there is no such clause marker. There are some remainders which cannot be explained by the hypothesis above. But these kind of usages cannot be made regularly, so I can say these are made by analogy and these can be taken for mere exceptions.
