This study aims to identify the prominent construction patterns in which the Korean verb ‘batda’ is used and examine the relationship between these construction patterns in accordance with Goldberg(1995, 2006)’s perspective on construction grammar. The prominent construction patterns involving the verb ‘batda’ include: ‘NP-ga NP-eseo/ege(seo)/eurobuteo NP-eul batda’, ‘NP-ga NP-eul batda’, ‘NP-ga NP-eul NP-e batda’, ‘NP-eseo/ege NP-ga batda’. Among these, ‘NP-ga NP-eseo/ege(seo)/eurobuteo NP-eul batda’ serves as the prototype construction. ‘NP-ga NP-eul batda’ and ‘NP-ga NP-eul NP-e batda’ are extended constructions stemming from the prototype. Furthermore, ‘NP-eseo/ege NP-ga batda’ represents an additional extension originating from ‘NP-ga NP-eul batda’ construction.
Abstract
