The particle ‘-에서’ can be used in predicates, subjects, and locational adverbial sentence components. These three usages of ‘-에서’ not only have the same sound and meaning, but also can be found in very similar environments. Therefore, it is questionable whether they should be considered as three different and separate particles or not. This article solved the problem by confirming that the meanings of so-called “locational adverbial case making particles” are lexical and, therefore they are auxiliary particles. It is so natural that the auxiliary particle ‘-에서’ can be used in several different sentence components.
Abstract
The particle ‘-에서’ can be used in predicates, subjects, and locational adverbial sentence components. These three usages of ‘-에서’ not only have the same sound and meaning, but also can be found in very similar environments. Therefore, it is questionable whether they should be considered as three different and separate particles or not. This article solved the problem by confirming that the meanings of so-called “locational adverbial case making particles” are lexical and, therefore they are auxiliary particles.
