한국점자연구위원회는 2006년 한글 3종 약자 1,475개를 제시하였고 그 중 174개를 추천 약자로 제안하였다. 이 연구는 한국점자연구위원회가 추천한 한글 3종 약자의 타당성을 평가하는 데 그 목적이 있었다. 연구 대상은 시각장애학교 이료교사 83명, 시각장애대학생 32명, 시각장애인목회자 21명, 시각장애인사회복지사 28명이었다. 조사도구는 추천 약자 및 약어 174개 각각에 대해 점형의 적절성과 활용 가능성을 5단계 척도로 평가하도록 구성하였다. 자료 분석 결과, 추천 약자 및 약어 총 174개 중 적절성과 활용성 각각 3점 이상으로 평가된 것은 16개 뿐이었다. 약자 19개 및 약어 135개 각각에 대한 적절성 평가는 집단 간에 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있었고, 약자 21개 및 약어 141개 각각에 대한 활용성 평가에 있어서도 집단 간에 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있었으며, 사후분석 결과 대부분 이료교사가 시각장애인목회자보다 한글 3종 약자의 적절성과 활용성을 낮게 평가하였다. 이료교사들은 약자 14개 및 약어 115개의 적절성과 활용성 간에 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보였는데 적절성보다 활용성을 더 낮게 평가하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity of Korean Braille Grade three developed and recommended by a nongovernmental Korean Braille Research Committee. A total of 164 persons using braille as a primary literacy medium participated in this study, including 83 riryo teachers at the schools for the blind, 32 university students, 21 pastors, and 28 social workers. The questionnaire was designed o evaluate the appropriateness and usefulness of each grade three contraction by employing the five-point Likert-type scale. Only 16 of 174 contractions were found to exceed an average of 3 on the appropriateness and usefulness scales. There were statistically significant differences between the four groups of participants in their evaluation of appropriateness for 154 of 174 grade three contractions and usefulness for 162 of 174 grade three contractions. Post-hoc analyses revealed that riryo teachers evaluated the appropriateness and usefulness of grade three contractions lower than did pastors. Riryo teachers evaluated the appropriateness lower than the usefulness for 129 of 174 grade three contractions.
