Abstract

The Study on the Korean language education is going to change. The most noticeable change is the exploration of the relation between Korean language education and thinking competence. However, most previous studies psychologically inclined. These studies have ignored the language which is important in the Korean language education, instead, they overestimate the thought. Thus, this study proposes matters of discussion in the perspective of the appropriate relationship between the language education and the thinking skill. Each of Thinking skills has its own thinking process and mode depending on the peculiarity of human activity. The literary thought, above all, is a thought presented in the form of totality based on the concrete, imagination, axiological choice. However, these characterstics are not represented clearly. The reader should understand, interprete, and evaulate the text by filling the "gap" between the language in the text and the intention of the author. According to the "Reader response theory", this gap is filled with reader's active participation. If we accept this claim, the literary education should be reconceptualized in the view of the student, the role of the teacher, the nature of the knowledge. It is the discussion that is the proper method to realize all the meaning. For active discussion, the teacher's role is crucial. The teacher should be the one that play an important role of "scaffolding", introducing the through discussion as possible as one can by the proper guidance and the plan. In this study, I suggested the discussion model as the method of the teaching of thinking skill, especially through the "Framework of Optional Teaching Strategies". Finally I examined the practice of Vivian Paley utilizing the method of teaching discussion.
