국내 출간 사전의 동향 분석 -연도별 주제별 통계 분석을 중심으로-

이 연구는 개화기부터 2019년까지 국내에서 출간된 사전의 목록을 정리하여 출간 사전의 통계 분석을 제시하고 최근 사전의 출간 동향을 분석하는 데 목적을 두었다. 사전은 학문의 성장과 발전을 견인하고 과학 기술의 표준 역할을 해 온 참조 텍스트이다. 그러나 국내 출간된 사전의 종수를 확인할 통계나 사전편찬사를 기술할 기초 데이터가 부족한 상태에 있다. 이에 이 연구에서는 출간 사전의 연도별 통계와 분야별 통계를 산출할 수 있도록 국내 주요 5개 도서관의 사전 목록을 데이터베이스화하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 11,855종의 도서관 사전 목록을 얻을 수 있었다. 이를 한국연구재단의 학술 연구 분야 분류표에 따라 분류한 다음, 연도별 통계와 분야별 통계를 산출하였다. 특히 ‘개화기~해방 전’, ‘해방 후~경제 성장기’, ‘경제 발전기’, ‘경제 안정기’로 나누어서 출간 통계 결과를 제시하였다. 다음으로는 대분류, 중분류, 소분류, 세분류로 나눠 인문학을 중심으로 통계 결과를 보였다. 특히 주목할 부분은 총 152개 분야 중, 137개 분야에서 사전이 출간되었으며, 가장 많은 사전이 출간된 중분류 분야는 인문학의 한국어와 문학이고, 다음으로 영어와 문학, 일본어와 문학, 사회과학의 경제학의 순으로 간행되었다. 반면, 사전이 부재한 분야가 상당하다는 점에서 여전히 사전의 기획과 편찬이 필요함을 강조하였다. 또한 온라인 사전 서비스의 도래와 종이사전 출간 간의 상관성을 확인하였다. 1990년대부터 2010년대 중반까지 매년 300종 내외의 사전이 출간되다가 온라인 서비스가 확대되면서 출간 사전 수가 30% 이상 줄어들었음을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 온라인 사전의 도래가 사전 출판 생태계를 위축시켰다는 기존의 견해를 증명하였다. 반면, 새로운 분야의 사전이 상당수 출간되었음을 밝혔다.
Abstract
This paper presents a statistical analysis of the dictionaries published in Korea from the late 19th century to 2019 and analyze the recent publishing trends of dictionaries in Korea Dictionary is a kind of reference text to lead the development of studies and to be a standard role of scientific technology. However, it is hard to find a statistics of dictionaries published and basic data to write the lexicographical history in Korea. To solve these problems, we made a list of dictionaries published in Korea based on the catalogs of the 5 major libraries including National Library of Korea, and then we got 11,855 lists. After that, following academic research classification table made by National Research Foundation of Korea(NRF), we produce the yearly statistics and the academic research statistics. The anlaysis is divided into the 4 period late 19th century ~ before liberation, after liberation ~ period of economic growth, period of economic stabilization, digital age, and present the statistics of dictionaries published in Korea. Next, we show the statistics of Humanity dictionaries by the hierarchical classification method. Dictionaries are published in 137 areas in total 152 academic research areas. The biggest area of dictionary published is the field of Korean language and literature 1,796 books, followed by the field of English language and literature 1,179 books, and the field of Japanese language and literature 516 books. The dictionaries of Economic in Social science are published 437 books. The years from 2000, the World Wide Web service of dictionaries are full-blown. Every year, over 200 dictionaries are published in Korea. We clarify the existing opinion that the advent of online dictionary brings the dark ages of paper dictionary. In this research, it is possible to make a total arrangement of major performance and present condition of dictionaries in Korea. We can reserve quantitative analysis data in every fields and areas in this statistical analysis. We can check unpublished and low-published areas and make several reasons why the dictionary publishing is needed.
