초록

본 연구는 오디션장에서 흔히 발생하는 성희롱에 대한 대학생들의 인식수준과 관련요인(성태도, 자아존중감) 간의 직간접효과를 실증적으로 규명하였다. 본 연구의 자료(data)는 서울, 충청남북도, 대구 및 경북지역에 위치한 5개 종합대학에서 연기, 방송연예, 미디어 등을 전공하고 있는 대학생들을 대상으로 설문조사를 통해 얻었다. 자료분석에서 사용된 최종표본은 541명(남 248명, 여 298명)이다. 성희롱 용인(tolerance)에 자아존중감이 미치는 직접효과와, 성차별적인 성태도의 직간접효과, 그리고 기독교 종교유무의 조절효과를 밝히기 위해서 구조방정식 모형분석을 하였다. 자료분석 결과 밝혀진 주요 사실은 다음과 같다. 기독교인 집단이 무종교 집단에 비해 성희롱을 덜 용인하는 경향을 보여주었다. 기독교 종교를 가진 집단에서는 연구모형에 포함된 3개 경로, 즉, ‘자아존중감➝’성희롱 용인‘(.189*), ‘자아존중감 ➝성태도‘(-.218**), ‘성태도 ➝성희롱 인용인‘(.268**)가 모두 유의하였지만, 무종교 집단의 경우에는 ‘자아존중감 ➝성폭력 용인‘ 경로는 유의하지 않았고, ‘자아존중감 ➝성태도‘(-.154*) 경로와 ‘성태도 ➝성희롱 용인‘(.322***)에서 직접효과는 각각 유의하였다. ‘자아존중감➝성태도➝성희롱 용인‘ 경로에서 ’성태도‘는 기독교 집단에서는 부분매개효과(-.058; lo. -.155, hi. -.007)가 있었다. 무교 집단에서는 ’자아존중감‘이 ’성희롱 용인‘에는 직접효과가 없었지만, ’자아존중감‘이 ’성태도를 억제하여 ‘성희롱 용인’에 유의한 영향을 주어 ‘성태도’가 완전매개 역할(-.050; lo. -.111, hi. -.018)을 하였다. 연구결과를 토대로 대학생들의 성희롱 인식개선을 위한 실천적, 정책적 함의를 논의하였다.

Abstract

The predominant concerns of the study consist of: (1) the direct effects of self-esteem on the tolerance toward sexual harassment at an audition meeting; (2) the direct and indirect effect of sexist attitudes toward sexual behavior on the tolerance toward sexual harassment; (3) the moderating effect of student religious affiliation with Christianity on each causal relationship. The research is based on a survey conducted with 541 college students, including 248 male students and 298 female students, majoring in media, film and theatre from five universities located in Seoul, Chueonan, Cheongju, Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do. In order for respondents to verify research questions, structural equation models were explored. A variety of tests were conducted (i.e. metric invariance test, critical ratio for difference test, multi-group analysis, bias-corrected boot-strapping). The notable findings are as follows: First, practicing Christian students showed direct influences from all three paths of the structural equation model: the positive effect of self-esteem on the extent to which they would tolerate sexual harassment; the effect of self-esteem on reducing the sexist attitude toward sexual behavior; and the effect of sexist attitude toward sexual behavior on level of tolerance toward sexual harassment. On the other hand, self-esteem among atheistic and non-Christian students did not show a direct effect on their tolerance of sexual harassment; yet self-esteem had a direct effect on the sexist attitude toward sexual behavior, and the sexist attitude also influences the tolerance to sexual harassment. Second, Christian students' self-esteem had an indirect effect on the tolerance to sexual harassment, resulting from the suppression of the sexist attitudes toward sexual behavior. Lastly, among atheistic and non-Christian students, although self-esteem did not have a direct effect on their level of tolerance of sexual behavior, their sexist attitude toward sexual behavior shows a full mediating effect on the path between self-esteem and level of tolerance towards sexual harassment, stemming from the suppression of sexist attitudes by self-esteem. Some practical and political implications are discussed based on the study's findings.
