성희롱(Sexual Harassment)의 재정의: 남녀대학생의 강간통념, 성희롱 인식, 성적괴롭힘 행동을 중심으로 경험적 재구성

초록

본 연구에서는 대학생의 성희롱(성적 괴롭힘) 행동에 영향을 미치는요인을 조사하고자, 강간통념, 4가지 성희롱 인식(성차별 인식, 성폭력 인식, 가해자 관점, 피해자 관점), 4유형의 성적 괴롭힘 행동(적대적 환경,원치 않는 성적접근, 스토킹, 성폭행)으로 이루어진 이론적 연구모델을 개발하였다. 성별 차이를 알아보고자 남성모델과 여성모델을 별도로 개발하였으며, 경남지역의 4개 대학에 재학 중인 726명의 대학생으로부터 수집된 자료를 토대로 구조방정식 모형검증을 실시하였다(남성모델, CFI=.946,TFI=.930, RMSEA=.057; 여성모델, CFI=.946, TFI=.929, RMSEA=.051). 전반적으로 강간통념은 남성과 여성 모두의 가해자 관점을 증가시키고,원치 않는 성적접근, 성폭행을 유발하는 위험 요인으로 작용하고 있으며,성차별 인식과 성폭력 인식은 모두 피해자 관점을 증가시키는 보호 요인으로 작용하는 것으로 보인다. 남녀 모델에서 많은 차이점이 발견되었지만, 남성 모델에서는 피해자 관점이 높을수록 3유형의 성적 괴롭힘 행동(원치 않는 성적접근, 스토킹, 성폭행)이 감소되었고, 여성모델에서는 성폭력 인식이 높을수록 2유형의 성적 괴롭힘 행동(원치 않는 성적접근, 성폭행)이 감소되었다. 본 연구 결과는 대학생의 성희롱예방교육에 있어 강간통념, 성희롱 인식에 대한 기초적 교육도 필요하지만, 성별에 따라 차별화된 접근이 필요함을 시사한다. 이를 토대로 강간통념을 줄이고 올바른 성희롱 개념을 정립함으로써 성적 괴롭힘 행동을 감소시킬 수 있는 방안이 제시되었다.

Abstract

This study aims to redefine sexual harassment and its sub-factors. Basedon these new conceptualizations, this study attempts to find out thedeterminants of sexual harassment behaviors, and to understand the processin which rape myth (RM) affects sexual harassment behaviors (SHB) viaperspectives on sexual harassment (PSH). For this purpose, a hypotheticalmodel which explains the relationships among rape myth, 4 perspectives onsexual harassment [sexual discrimination perspective (SDP), sexual violenceperspective (SVP), perpetrator-perspective (PP), victim-perspective (VP)],and 4 types of sexual harassment behaviors [hostile environment (HE),unwanted sexual advance (USA), stalking (ST), sexual assault (SA)] hasdeveloped. Using data collected from 726 college students of 4 universitiesin KyungNam, the male model and the female model were separately testedby a structural equation modeling. In general, RM seems to be a risky factor in that it increased USA andSA, and increased PP for both males and females. SDP and SVP seem to beprotective factors in that they increased VP. For males, RM and VP arestrong predictors of SHB, and for females, RM and SVP are strong predictors of SHB. Based on the findings, a specialized policy and program for sexualharassment prevention depending on the characteristics of sub-populations(group), and evidence-based sexual assault prevention strategies aresuggested as a way to increase the effectiveness of prevention programs andto identify a new perspective to solve and respond to sexual harassment as asocial problem. Also a need to replicate the conceptualization of sexualharassment and its sub-factors, as well as perspectives of sexual harassmentadopted in this study is suggested to validate these conceptualizations.
