성경신학적 관점에서 본 근현대 예술에 나타난 창세기 22장의 이삭 번제의 이미지에 관한 연구

초록

본 연구는 창세기 22장의 이삭 번제 사건이 신구약 정경 안에서 어떤 의미를 갖는지와 근현대 문화 속의 예술 작품(이미지)에서 어떻게 표현되었는지를 성경신학적 관점에서 연구한다. 이삭 번제 사건은 아브라함 사이클 속에서 하나님의 약속과 성취의 주제 및 아브라함의 믿음과 순종을 강조한다. 보다 넓게는 원시 복음과 관련되면서 타락 후 하나님의 구원 계획을 성취하는 구속사의 맥을 형성한다. 신약은 이러한 구약적 이해를 유지하며, 아브라함을 독생자를 내어주는 하나님에 대한 모형으로, 순종하는 이삭을 순종하는 그리스도의 예표로, 이삭 대신에 번제로 드려진 숫양을 십자가 사건에서의 그리스도의 예표로 본다. 구출 받은 이삭은 구원받은 그리스도인들에 대한 예표이다. 또한 신약은 아브라함을 믿음 및 순종과 부활신앙의 모델로 삼는다. 이삭 번제 사건을 회화화한 작품들 가운데 카라바조는 이삭의 내면적 고통과 공포에 초점을 맞추며, 이삭을 그리스도의 예표로 이해한다. 그는 세상의 가장 속된 것들 가운데서 하나님의 거룩과 구원이 나타남을 형상화한다. 렘브란트는 화풍과 그림에서 카라바조의 영향을 받았으며, 이삭을 이상화하여 그리스도의 모형으로 묘사한다. 유대인 화가 샤갈은 번제로 드려지는 이삭 및 십자가를 지고 가는 예수를 통해 유대인들이 당했던 고난과 핍박을 표현한다. 카라바조와 렘브란트조차 신구약 성경의 다면적 모형론이라는 세밀한 신학을 표현하기에는 한계가 있고, 샤갈은 성경신학적 이해와는 더욱 거리감을 갖는다.

Abstract

This paper studies the sacrifice of Isaac (SI) in Genesis 22 in the context of the Old and the New Testament and, from the perspective of Biblical theology, how it is expressed in the modern and contemporary art. The story emphasizes the promise and fulfillment of God and the faith and obedience of Abraham in its immediate context the Abraham cycle of Genesis. In the wider context, Isaac the seed of Abraham is in line with salvation history in which God promises and fulfills the Proto-evangelism (Gen. 3:15) as the salvific plan to resolve the problem of human sins after the Fall. The NT, keeping the understanding of the SI of the OT, recognizes Abraham who withholds not his beloved only son as the type of God who withholds not his only begotten Son. The NT sees obedient Isaac as the type of the obedient Christ, and the ram being offered as a burnt offering instead of Isaac as the type of Christ dying on the Cross. Isaac the seed of Abraham being delivered because of the replaced ram functions as the type of the Christians being saved by the vicarious death of Christ. The NT also presents Abraham as a model of faith praising his faith and obedience, and especially faith in resurrection. Among the paintings that represent the SI event as image, Caravaggio focuses on the internal fear and pains of Isaac and understands Isaac as the type of Christ. He presents that the holiness and salvation of God is displayed in the most secular of the world. Rembrandt, being influenced by Caravaggio in the style of painting or the painting representation of the SI, idealizes Isaac in his painting and sees him as the type of Christ. But, Jewish painter Chagall, symbolically presenting the SI, appropriates both Isaac being offered as a burnt offering and Christ carrying the Cross as the means to disclose the suffering and persecution of his fellow Jews. Even Caravaggio and Rembrandt still have limitations to express the delicate Biblical theology of multi-dimension, and Chagall is much more far from the Biblical theological understanding of the SI.
