Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to find a plan for financial independence of Christian alternative schools. Before discussing the financial independence of the schools, this paper examined the financial situation of Christian alternative schools in Korea. High tuition fees and low teacher wages were the main characteristics of the school finances in the absence of government’s public financial support. These features point out that it is not only harmful to the publicity of education but also contrary to the basic spirit of Christian schools. In order to solve these problems, this paper draws out four financial securitization measures by analyzing case studies of domestic and foreign schools which are relatively soundly secured. The following are the four methods for financial independence of Christian alternative schools. First, find ways to receive more effective financial support from churches. Second, find ways to receive ongoing support from individual sponsors. Third, find ways to secure the financial resources of the school through its own profitable work. Fourth, find ways to reduce the operating cost of the school with various support from local communities. The emphasis in this paper is on how Christian alternative schools can help by forming human relationships with communities and exchanging human and physical resources. It has been pointed out that the close relationship between the school and the community is not only financially supportive but also helps the school achieve its ultimate goal. Finally, the financial management of the school is important because it emphasizes that securing and applying finance is a way to realize the ideology of school beyond the problem of money.
