본고는 구약의 동성애 법에 관한 연구이다. 구약의 동성애에 관한 법률은 레위기 18:22과 20:13 두 곳 뿐이다. 필자는 본고에 동성애에 관한 본문의 본래 의미와 이 법의 현재 의미를 설명하려고 한다. 본문이해에 대한 논쟁점은 해석과 적용에 나타난다. 즉 본문은 단순히 구약시대의 제의적 부정, 씨 손실 방지법, 그리고 성관계에서 남성의 역할을 의미하기 때문에 동성애 금지법과 무관하다는 것이다. 또 본문이 동성애 금지법으로 볼 수 있다고 하더라도 이스라엘에 한정된 고대 이스라엘의 정결법에 불과하다는 것이다. 그러나 이 본문의 언어와 문맥 그리고 계시역사적 해석은 이런 해석과 적용을 허용하지 않고 있다. 비록 구약의 동성애 금지법이 레위기의 '성결법'에 나타난다할 지라도 이 법은 도덕적인 부정으로 간주된다. 하나님은 이스라엘이 거룩한 언약 공동체로서 자신과의 관계를 유지하기 원하셨기 때문에 동성애 금지를 명하셨다. 동성애는 근본적으로 잘못된 성행위이기 때문이다. 이 법을 어기는 것은 언약 공동체에서 쫓겨나든지 사형에 해당한다. 이것은 동성애가 심각한 죄라는 것을 의미한다. 물론 이 법에 대한 심판이 문자적으로 적용되지 않고 교회의 징계에 해당하지만 고대 이스라엘에 주어진 이 금지법은 오늘도 여전히 유효하다. 왜냐하면 신약성경이 이 법의 연장선에서 동성애를 금하고 있기 때문이다(롬 1:26, 27, 31).
Abstract
This article is to study the homosexual laws in the Old Testament which appear only two times: Lev. 18:22; 20:13. I will elucidate what it meant and what it means in this article. Some scholars have different views in both the interpretation and application of the texts. Namely, for some it prohibits merely cultic impurity, loss of seed and a man's lying in a woman's position in sexual intercourse. They tend to circumscribe the laws to the purity law in ancient Israel. However, the language, the context, and revelational history of the Bible never allow to interpret and apply them in such a way. Although the homosexual laws belong to 'Holiness Code', the law is associated with the regulation of purity but it is regarded as moral uncleanness. God prohibited homosexuality to have covenantal relationship with Israel as a holy col unity because it is an inherently deviant sexual behavior. Those who violated were to be expelled from the community or to be put to death. It meant that homosexuality was a severe sin in Israel. The prohibition of this ancient law is still valid because it is an intrinsic sin of man and Paul prohibits it in the extension of the Levitical law (Rom. 1:26, 27, 31).
