자끄 엘륄의 기술철학과 기독교 사상: ‘변증법’ 개념을 중심으로

엘륄은 자신의 기독교 사상과 기술에 대한 사회학적, 철학적 분석을 엄격히 분리하려 노력했다. 그러면서도 그는 그 둘이 변증법적 관계를 이루며 평행적으로 진행된다는 점을 여러 차례 밝힌 바 있다. 따라서 그의 사상을 총체적으로 이해하는 데에는 이 둘 간의 연결점이나 동일한 지향점을 찾는 것만큼이나 그의 변증법적 방법론을 파악하는 것이 중요하다. 본 논문은 이 ‘변증법’ 개념을 중심으로 엘륄 사상의 두 축이라 할 수 있는 기술에 대한 반성과 기독교 사상을 어떻게 함께 이해할 것인지를 모색하고, 이를 통해 특히 기술철학의 관점에서 엘륄을 재해석할 수 있는 계기를 찾아볼 것이다. 먼저 예수와 마르크스가 엘륄의 삶과 학문의 여정에 끼친 영향을 살펴보고(1절), 엘륄의 변증법이 기술철학자들과 그의 신학에 관심을 둔 학자들에게 어떻게 받아들여졌는지를 살펴볼 것이다(2절). 이어서 엘륄 자신이 설명하는 변증법을 상세하게 알아보고(3절), 변증법에 대한 이해가 엘륄 자신의 기술철학을 더욱 정확히 이해하는 데 도움을 준다는 점을 밝힐 것이다(4절). 마지막으로, 변증법적 방법론이 흔히 비판받는 그의 기술비관론을 어떻게 극복하는지를 따로 떼어 고찰할 것이다(5절).
Abstract
Ellul strictly separated his works on sociological/ philosophical analysis of technology and his Christian writings, while emphasizing their dialectical relationship. This research is an effort to understand Ellul's thought in its totality by focusing on his notion of dialectics. First, I will survey how Jesus and Marx influenced Ellul's life and scholarship (ch. 1) and different acception of his dialectics by philosophers of technology and by those interested in his theology (ch. 2). Then Ellul's own presentation on dialectical method will be examined (ch. 3), followed by a suggestion that this methodology can shed a new light to his theory of technology (ch. 4). Finally, I will argue that his dialectical method could be seen as his answer to the accusation of his pessimism concerning technological society (ch. 5).
