기술문명 시대의 그리스도인을 위한 자끄 엘륄의 복음과 신앙

이 논문은 제4차 산업혁명으로 상징되는 고도의 기술문명 속 에 사는 현대인을 위한 복음과 그리스도인의 의미를 모색하는 연 구이다. 이러한 작업을 위해 이 글은 프랑스 개혁교회 소속의 신 학자이자 법학자인 자끄 엘륄(Jacques Ellul: 1912-1994)의 관점 을 빌려온다. 엘륄에 의하면 현대인은 삶의 수단인 기술을 절대 시해서 신성화하였다. 절대화된 기술은 그 자체의 목적인 효율성 과 생산성의 향상을 위해 인간성을 배제하고 전체성을 갖게 된다. 엘륄은 이러한 생각에서 그리스도인들이 자유의 행위를 통해 기술적 필연의 질서를 극복해야 한다고 주장했다. 엘륄은 기술문 명 속에서 사는 인간의 자유는 은총에 의한 구원과, 은총을 내리 신 하나님의 영광을 재발견해가는 변증법적인 전개를 통해서 가 능하다고 보았다. 엘륄의 사유구조에서 변증법 사상은 자연스럽 게 그의 자유사상으로 이어진다. 엘륄의 자유는 기술이라는 필연 성과 하나님의 자유가 대립하는 변증법적 구조에서 말씀의 순종 을 선택하는 것이기 때문이다. 엘륄은 기술과 하나님 사이에 끼 어서 긴장을 느끼는 현대인이 기술문명의 삶을 거부하고 계시에 순종해서 기독교 윤리를 살아야 한다고 말한다. 엘륄은 기독교 철저주의에 입각해서 ‘계시는 인간을 자유롭게 해방한다. 계시를 따를 때에 인간성이 보존되고 기술의 주인이 되어 그것을 누릴 수 있다’는 진리를 기술문명 시대의 자유라는 키워드로 통찰하여 복음의 희망을 밝혀주었다. 생명을 보존하시는 계시에 순종함으 로써 자신과 세상을 변혁시키려는 엘륄의 신학은 예수 그리스도 의 생명으로 삶과 세상을 변화시키는 역동적 복음을 추구하는 개 혁주의생명신학을 현대인과 소통하는데 깊은 통찰을 제공할 것 이다.
Abstract
It is common to say that technology, together with scientific knowledge, has had the greatest impact on the lives of human beings. For example, technology saves people from the suffering of natural disasters and diseases. However, on the other hand, the technological society is causing new problems such as human alienation due to the commodification of humans. Jacques Ellul (1912-1994) researched the matter in which modern techno- logical society caused people to suffer alienation. Further, he sought to find a way to set the people free from the social pres- sures to follow such technical values as efficiency and productivity. I studied to check and organize Ellul's thought re- lated to his dialectical thought and his freethinking in his books. Through these studies, I can reach such conclusions as follows. Firstly, Ellul recognizes the matter of alienation of people who live in the technological society. And Ellul, to solve the alien ation matter, researches such two main subjects, namely neces- sity and freedom, based on the dialectical methodology. Secondly, through his dialectical method, Ellul can discover a way to gain freedom through God, who is in dialectical opposi- tion to technology. Thirdly, Ellul's freedom established based on its dialectical theory may be obtained by practicing Christian eth- ics, which means the specific way to live to obey the Bible. In conclusion, Ellul finds a way to escape from the pressure of ne- cessity caused by the technological society. For Ellul, the modern people may be released by the providence of God, who is in the dialectical contradiction with technology. A man freed by the grace of God can live a life of obedience to the Bible by practicing Christian ethics.
