유럽 연합의 기독교적 기원에 관한 역사적 고찰: 로베르 쉬망의 생애와 사상을 중심으로

본 논문은 유럽 연합 운동의 기독교적 기원에 관한 역사적 고찰이다. 이 통합 운동은 제 1, 2차 세계 대전 후 새롭게 일어난 것으로 유럽에 초국가적 국제기구를 창설하여 전쟁을 불가능하게 만들기 위한 계획이었다. 본 논문에서는 먼저 이 운동이 2차 세계대전 이후 어떻게 로베르 쉬망(Robert Schuman)에 의해 시작되었는지 그의 생애와 사상을 통해 심도 있게 고찰한다. 나아가 이 운동에 대한 오해들을 지적하면서 유럽 연합이 어떻게 자유와 평등, 인권과 일치 그리고 연대 및 평화라고 하는 기독교 세계관에 기초해 있으며 그 통합과정이 어떠했는지를 밝힌다. 결론으로 쉬망이 남긴 공헌은 먼저 잘 준비된 유럽통합프로젝트의 설계자 및 건축가였고, 매우 현실적이고 구체적인 유럽의 미래 비전을 제시하면서도 그 뿌리는 기독교적 정신에 있음을 분명히 밝혔으며, 다른 여러 지도자들과 지혜롭게 동역할 줄 알았고, 그의 성경적 세계관과 유럽의 정치 및 삶을 통합하여 시대적 사명인 평화와 화해, 일치와 연대 및 이웃 사랑의 성경적 가치에 기초한 유럽연합이라는 새로운 패러다임을 제시하고 주도함으로 세상을 변화시킨 위대한 인물이었음을 지적한 후 이것이 한국 상황에 주는 교훈이 무엇인지를 도출한다.
Abstract
This article is a historical research on the Christian root of European Union movement. It was a new movement in Europe after the 1st and 2nd world war, trying to make war impossible by creating the international higher authority in Europe. This article, first investigates how this movement was begun by Robert Schuman after the 2nd world war by looking at his life and thought. Furthermore, it deals with the development of this movement to see how it was rooted in Christian worldview of freedom, equality, human rights, unity, solidarity and peace. In conclusion, an attempt is made to identify the four points of contribution he has made and what are the implications of this history to Korean context.
