‘-더-’와 전제의 투사 –담화표상이론의 관점에서

1970년대 이래에 한국어의 연구 주제 가운데에 가장 오랜 기간 논쟁의 대상이 되었던 문제 가운데 하나가 ‘-더-’의 이질성 문제이다. 논의의 초기부터 ‘-던’이 ‘-더-’와는 별개의 형태소라는 주장과 ‘-던’은 ‘-더-’가 관형절에 나타난 형태이기 때문에 동일한 형태소로 취급하는 것이 타당하다는 주장이 팽팽하게 맞서 왔고 최근에는 ‘-더-’가 포함된 연결형- ‘-었더라면’, ‘-더라도’, 그리고 ‘-었더라도’ 등-의 성격에도 관심이 확장되는 추세이다. 논쟁 중에 가장 주목받은 현상은 소위 주어제약과 몸소살핌제약이다. 하지만 어디에서도 이들 제약에 관해 설명적 타당성을 충족시키는 이론을 제시하지 못했다. 본고에서는‘-더-’를 증거성에서 비롯한 전제의미를 드러내는 표지로 파악하고, 전제의미 - 즉 사건이나 상황에 대한 직접적 관찰-는 담화 상황에서의 원점(origo)을 통해서 맥락에 추가된다고 주장하였다. 이와 같은 주장의 이론적 근거로 담화표상이론(DRT)의 조응적 전제 이론을 제시하였다. 본 연구를 통해서 ‘-더-’에서 나타나는 제약들을 의미론의 연구 방법을 적용시켰을 때에 일관성 있게 설명할 수 있다는 점을 밝혔다.
Abstract
Since 1970s, one of the most controversial discussions of Korean grammar is to explain the heterogeneity of ‘-te-’. Some researchers argued that ‘-ten’ originally came from ‘-te-’whereas others argued against it. ‘-esstelamyen’, ‘-telato’, and ‘-esstelato’ were also paid attention to recently. Person effects and Direct observation are two crucial evidences for researchers. However, no theory satisfied the explanatory adequacy on the issue. This study demonstrate that ‘-te-’ is a presupposition trigger and also evidential marker and that the origo and a perceived event is paired under real world. The proposal is based on anaphoric presupposition of DRT.
