본 논문에서는 철학상담의 입장에서 엘렌 베스트와 시몬 베유라는두 여성주체가 겪는 고통과 치유에 대해 고찰해본다. 두 유대인 여성의 고통은병리학적 진단으로 볼 때, ‘거식증’과 ‘자살’로 유사해보이지만, 이 두 여성의고통에 대한 인식 및 태도와 치유과정은 많은 차이를 보인다. 먼저 2장에서는 빈스방거의 현존재분석이라는 입장에서 베스트의 ‘실존적인 고통’에 대한 철학상담적 이해를 시도한다. 그리하여 그녀가 지닌 플라톤적으로 양분된 세계관과 영혼과 육체라는 두 세계 사이에서의 ‘절망’이 지닌변증법적 양상에 대해 고찰한 뒤, 베스트라는 여성개인이 겪는 고통에 대한현존재분석의 치료적 제한점을 알아본다. 3장에서는 베유가 개인으로서 겪은질병과 정신적 고통이 무엇이었는지를 밝혀본 뒤, 그녀가 ‘뿌리 뽑힘’이라는개념화를 통해서 직면하고 있는 ‘사회적 고통’에 대해 알아본다. 나아가 4장에서는 베유가 자신과 세계에 대한 고통을 ‘의무’라는 철학적 전제로부터 어떻게사유해내는지의 과정을 검토해보고, 그 안에 담긴 영혼의 ‘뿌리 내림’이 지니는성찰적 치유의 의미를 숙고해본다. 이로써 고통을 겪는 여성의 주체에 대한철학상담적 이해의 토대 마련하고, 이와 동시에 ‘나도’ 겪은 개인적이고 사회적인 고통에 귀 기울임으로써 ‘너와 함께”의 상호적인 치유를 구축해가는 철학상담의 실천적 함의를 모색해 보고자 한다.
Abstract
This paper examines the suffering and healing of two female subjects, Ellen West and Simone Weil from the standpoint of philosophical counseling. The pathophysiological diagnosis of both of these Jewish women resembles “anorexia” and “suicide,” but the two women’s perceptions and attitudes toward the suffering and their healing processes differ greatly. Chapter Two presents a philosophical interpretation of the “existential suffering” of Ellen West using the approach of Daseinsanalysis developed by Binswanger. After focusing on her platonic worldview and the dialectical pattern of “despair” between the two worlds of soul and body, the therapeutic limitations to analyzing individual female suffering are examined. In Chapter Three, after investigating the illness and mental suffering that Simone Weil experienced as an individual, the “social suffering” she faced is examined through the conceptualization of “uprootedness”. Chapter Four sheds light on Simone Weil’s thinking processes regarding her own and the world’s suffering from the philosophical premise of “duty”. An understanding of the meaning of reflexive healing, which contains the “rootedness” of the soul, is offered. In this way, this paper provides a philosophical understanding of the female subject’s suffering. At the same time, it examines the practical implications of philosophical counseling, which builds the mutual healing of “being with you” by listening to the individual and the social suffering that “I” has experienced.
