본 논문은 여성 환자들의 내담자중심치료를 위해서는 무엇보다 고통받는구체적인 한 여성에 대한 철학상담적 인간이해가 전제되어야 한다는 비판적 문제의식에서 출발하여, 정신분열증 여성 환자 ‘엘렌 베스트 ’(Ellen West)의 사례를 집중적으로 다룬다. 이 사례는 기존의 정신과치료와 초기 정신분석에서 치료에 실패했지만, 빈스방거로 하여금 ‘현존재분석 ’(Daseinanalyse)이라는 새로운 치료의 패러다임을 잉태하도록 한 것으로 유명하다. 우선적으로 2장에서는 엘렌이라는 한여성 환자를 치료했던 남성 의사 및 치료자들의 임상에서 드러난 병리학적 진단을 중심으로 그 사례를 소개한다. 특히 그녀의 병력에서 드러나는 진단들, 예를 들면 거식증, 우울증, 강박증, 정신분열증을 통해서 환자로서 그녀의 사례가 어떻게 기술되고 구성되었는지를 밝혀본다. 나아가 3장에서는 대표적인 인본주의 심리치료자인 로저스의 입장에서 엘렌이라는 환자의 사례에 대해 비판적 독해한 뒤, 사람 중심상담의 대안적 접근가능성을 알아본다. 끝으로 4장에서는 진정한 여성내담자 중치료가 되기 위해 전제되어야 하는 철학상담적 인간이해에 주목한다. 엘렌 베스트 자신의 텍스트와 주체적 글쓰기작업의 의미를 새롭게 해석함으로써 그녀가 치료받는 과정뿐만 아니라 생애전반에 걸쳐서 경험한 소외와 고통의 내러티브를 여성주의 철학상담의 입장에서 해체적으로 다시 읽고 재구성해본다.
Abstract
This article begins by expressing the critical awareness that female clientcentered therapy should be based on human understanding about the concrete suffering of women from the point of view of philosophical counseling, and it focuses intensively on the case of a female schizophrenic patient, Ellen West. The established psychiatric treatment and early psychoanalysis overshadowed this case, but it is famous because it gave rise to Binswanger's “daseinsanalysis” as a new paradigm of psychiatric treatment. In the first chapter, this paper introduces the case of Ellen West, focusing on the pathological diagnoses given by her male doctor and her therapist’s clinical practices. At the same time, it investigates how, as a female patient, her case was described and constituted through the diagnoses recorded in her medical history, such as anorexia nervosa, melancholia, obsessive-compulsive neurosis, and schizophrenia simplex. Second, this work seeks to read critically the case of Ellen West from the perspective of the humanistic psychotherapist Carl Rogers, and then proposes his alternative “human-centered” approach to the case. Finally, it focuses on human understanding from the point of view of philosophical counseling, which is required for authentic female client-centered therapy. On the basis of Ellen West's own texts and her subjective writing, this paper suggests a deconstructive reading from the point of view of philosophical counseling, as it is through this narrative that her suffering and isolation was exposed during her whole life as well as her concentrated therapeutic process.
