D. 해러웨이는 「사이보그 선언」 이후 「반려종 선언」에 이르기까지, 자연/문화 이분법을 넘어서는 새로운 관계맺기의 방식을 제시해 왔다. 그러한 그의 행보는 「트러블과 함께 머물기」에서 인류세를 비판하고 쓸루세에서 다종 간의 ‘함께-되기’와 ‘응답-능력’을 강조하는 방향으로 나아간다. 해러웨이의 ‘함께-되기’는 인간 역시 살고 죽는 유한한 존재로 정위시킨다는 점에서 트랜스휴먼적 포스트휴머니즘과 입장을 달리한다. 또한 다종 간의응답-능력은 기준의 전통 윤리의 인간중심적 책임 개념을 넘어선다. 이러한 ‘함께-되기’와 ‘응답-능력’의 사유는 인류세가 가정하는 인간중심성과 구분되는 새로운 다종적 생태정치의 관점을 제공한다. 이는 특히 오늘날 환경위기에 대해 인류에 의한 구원 또는 묵시론적 회의주의를 넘어, ‘트러블과 함께 살아가는’ 현실적인 관점을 제공한다는 점에서 기존의 담론들과 차별화되는 의의가 있다.
Abstract
Donna Haraway has suggested a new way of relationship that can go beyond the natural/cultural dichotomy, from A Cyborg Manifesto to The Companion Species Manifesto. In Staying with the Trouble, her move is to criticize the Anthropocene and to emphasize multi-species’ becoming-with and their ‘response-ability’ in the Chthulucene’s. ‘Becoming-with’ differs from posthumanism in the transhuman direction in that humans are also positioned as finite beings who live and die. In addition, the multi-species’ response-ability goes beyond the idea of anthropocentric responsibility in the traditional ethics of standards. The concepts of becoming-with and response-ability provide a new perspective of ecopolitics that is distinct from the anthropocentricity assumed by the Anthropocene. This is particularly meaningful in that it provides a realistic perspective of ‘staying with the troubles’ beyond Human salvation or apocalyptic skepticism about today’s environmental crisis.
