Abstract
While advocating the ANT(actor-network theory), Bruno Latour refuses the distinction between science and politics, between knowledge and society by the term of technoscience. He intends to show the process of which the model of technology and society is constructed and stabilized simultaneously via the network of heterogenous actors, through following scientists and technicians in laboratories. In this paper of I would like to consider the possibility of alliance between ANT and feminist STS by means of focusing the conception of actors in technoscience. As for D. J. Haraway, taking the feminist perspective means giving a better explanation of technoscience and offering of alternative paradigm of it. She has emphasized the hybridity of objects in real world and wanted to identify the collapse of traditional distinctions of nature/culture, machine/human, subject/others and gender difference. The very conceptual apparatus to show how feminists could intervene properly in the new world system revealed by the collaboration of technoscience and multinational capitals are the artifacts like cyborgs, FemaleManⓒ, OncoMouse TM. I argue that although Latour and Haraway have made some similar mentions regarding technoscience and actors, Haraway has a epistemic, political strength comparing Latour’s position in that she questions and figures up for whom the hybrid of human and nonhuman exists and how it effects. In her eye, Latour’s project has a defect in undue strengthening of the hero’s actions in the narratives of science. There are too much great undertakings of heroic male like enrolling and mobilizing of alliances and trials of strength against rivals and dissenters in the technoscience in-the-making. So the association or alliance of ANT and Technofeminism can be searched in degendering the conception of actors who are the warriors trying to extend their network longer and make it stronger. We may consider ‘the past’ as an actor in gendered practices of science as L. T. Corrigan and A. J. Mills suggest. That move could help us catch a new vision for an extending of ANT.
