Abstract
In this essay, I present an analysis of ≪Houris≫ by Kamel Daoud to examine how the female body was transformed into a political battlefield during the Algerian Civil War. Focused on the trauma and utterance of native language, I explored the conditions under which female speech is articulated despite oppressive structures. The female body is perceived as a space engraved with social, political, and cultural conflicts drawn from the theological discussion of Elizabeth Grosz and Bessel van der Kolk, as it examines how Aube’s body continually reproduces the past in the context of wartime trauma. Furthermore, I examine the constraints placed on the female voice within oppressive structures and explore how the mother tongue can work as a tool of oppression, building upon Aeryung Kim’s insights regarding the native language. Through these arguments, I will demonstrate that the freedom of women’s speech and academic geography can dismantle misogyny and serve as a essential foundation for democracy.
