조선후기 젠더의식의 복합성에 대하여: 『三宜堂稿』를 중심으로

Abstract

This paper is an attempt to illuminate the reality of the cracks and complexity of gender consciousness in the late Joseon Dynasty through Sameudanggo(三宜堂稿). The reason why this paper intends to illuminate the complexity of gender consciousness in the late Joseon Dynasty with Sameudanggo is that Sameudanggo, as a work of women in the late Joseon Dynasty, shows the reality of the gender consciousness that women themselves at the time internalized. And the expression of sincere emotions and desires, or initiative in marital relationships, shown in the Sameudanggo, shows the figure of women in the late Joseon Dynasty who were not completely subordinated to the ruling ideology. But on the other hand, it is presumed that this appearance of her was possible because she had the basis for internalizing the role that was ontologically imposed on women in the Confucian gender system. Therefore, it is possible to reveal the complexity of gender consciousness in the late Joseon Dynasty by paying attention to her tightrope under the Confucian gender system of the late Joseon Dynasty revealed in the Sameudanggo, and by confirming the three-dimensional and concrete real human figure rather than an idea. First of all, it can be said that her gender consciousness confirmed in the Sameudanggo clearly declares her position to respect the Neo-Confucian gender consciousness. However, there are many lyrical poems that express excessive emotions without filtering or contain sexual interest in the Sameudanggo, and there are parts that reveal her initiative in marital relations, unlike the Neo-Confucian marital ethics that she advocated outwardly. These various points of tightrope, which do not seem consistent with the gender consciousness advocated in the context, create a crack in our perception of gender consciousness in the late Joseon Dynasty. And these cracks suggest the possibility of looking at the complexities of gender consciousness in the late Joseon Dynasty in a new way.
