만주국(滿洲國) 문학의 모더니티: 줴칭[爵靑]의 작품을 중심으로

Abstract

Literature from the period of Manchukuo, a de facto Japanese colony northeast China, had long been neglected and denied within Chinese academia. Especially after China entered the communist era, literature from Manchukuo period was uniformly stigmatized and criticized with prejudice of being “pro-Japanese literature”. However, since the 1980s, changes in Chinese society have led to significant shifts in perspectives, and new viewpoints on Manchukuo period literature have begun to emerge. Despite this transition establishing criteria for and assuming critical approach regarding “pro-Japanese writers” and “pro-Japanese literature” related to the Manchukuo period remains as a challenge in many respects. Among these writers of Manchukuo period Jue Qing is considered as one of the most prolific character, but due to political and ideological challenges, no research on his person and literary production has been adequately conducted by Chinese academia. This article aims to lay foundation on later filling this research gap by departing from the conventional dichotomous perspective of viewing Jue Qing’s literature as either “pro-Japanese” or “anti-Japanese”. Instead, it seeks to analyze and examine the characteristics of “modernity” inherent in Jue Qing’s literature. In particular, this article attempts to analyse how Jue Qing, who had close ties with Japan, understood and embraced various Japanese literary trends in his creative process, and how this connects with the literary creations of the Chinese Shinkankakuha(新感覺派) writers in Shanghai, another colonial space in China at the time.
