Abstract
The television and the radio are the most influential mass media influencing our everyday life due to their institutional and technical characteristics. From its production to broadcasting, TV and radio programs play important roles in public communication and in the formation of cultural identity. That's why we need to study examples of broadcasting archives, systemizing process of collect, management, and utilization of on-air programs and its source images. Generally, the collections fo broadcasting companies are classified as private archives. But as the public service of broadcasting companies is emphasized greatly, their archives could be classified as a public hertitage. This study concerns the Institute National de I'Audiovisual(INA): the French National Audiovisual Institute, managed by a licence fee, one of a national budget. INA, created in 1974, is a unique example of a national institute managing broadcastiong collections. Its mission is to collect, preserve, restore and communicate France's TV and radio archives. Since 1995, it collected all TV and radio on-air programs that were legally deposited. INA's archiving activities aim for various reuse of its collection : professional, public, and scientific reuses. Therefore, INA has devloped several platforms for the public's direct access to ist collection. This study provides information on INA's organization, management, and its collection uses. This example provides us with to us several contents policies and digital asset management systems.
