비수도권 고등학생의 대학 선택에 영향을 미치는 요인：비수도권 대학과 수도권 대학 선택을 중심으로

이 연구는 수도권 대학으로의 학생 쏠림 현상에 주목하여, 비수도권 고등학생의 비수도권 및 수도권 대학 선택에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 한국교육고용패널조사Ⅱ 2016코호트의 비수도권 고등학생 2,323 명의 1~4차년도 자료를 활용하여 로지스틱 다층모형으로 분석하였다. 주요 결과는 첫째, 대학 선택 시 비수도권 유지 집단과 수도권 이동 집단 간 학생 및 학교 특성에 유의한 차이가 있었다. 둘째, 학생 특성 중 수도권 대학 선택 확률을 높이는 요인은 사회경제적 배경, 내신 등급, 학생 교육포부, 대학 선택 요인 중 대학의 사회적 평판, 예체능계열 전공 희망 이었으며, 낮추는 요인은 대학 선택 요인 중 취업전망과 장학금 혜택, 의약계열 전공 희망이었다. 셋째, 학교 특성 중 수도권 대학 선택 확률을 높이는 요인은 고교 유형 중 과고·외고였던 반면, 낮추는 요인은 직업계고였다. 이를 바탕으로 비수도권 대학의 배출 및 흡인요인을 고려한 비수도권 대학의 경쟁력 강화 필요성과 방안을 논의하였다.
Abstract
This study analyzes factors influencing choice of non–metropolitan and metropolitan univeristies for non–metropolitan high school students. Data from 2,323 students in the Korea Employment Education Panel II(2016– 2019) were analyzed using logistic multi–level model. The main findings are: First, student and school characteristics differed between groups staying in non–metropolitan area and moving to metropolitan area when choosing universities. Second, among student characteristics, factors that increased the probability of choosing metropolitan universities were socioeconomic background, higher academic grade, student educational aspirations, the social reputation of the university as a factor in university choice, and intention to major in arts and sports. Conversely, factors that decreased this probability were employment prospects and scholarship benefits as factors in university choice, and intention to major in medical fields. Third, among school characteristics, science and foreign language high school students had higher probabilities of choosing metropolitan universities, whereas vocational high school students had lower probabilities. The results indicate the necessity and measures for strengthening non–metropolitan universities’ competitiveness by considering push and pull factors.
