미래 세대를 위한 교양교육의 시대사적 역할에 대하여 -한국 고등교육 정책과의 관계성 및 사회변동에 따른 주제적 확장을 중심으로-

현대 사회의 위기가 다양한 영역에서 대두할수록 보편교육으로서의 대학교육에서의 교양교육의 중요성은 더욱 커진다고 할 수 있지만 우리 사회의 교양교육의 위상은 여전히 위기에 놓여있다. 이에 필자는 현재의 교양교육의 질적 발전은 물론 미래세대를 위한 교양교육의 역할 강화를 위해 다음의 두 가지 차원의 문제를 검토하고자 한다. 첫째, 고등교육기관으로서의 대학이 처한 상황과 교양교육과의 관계라는 ‘현실적 ’ 차원에 대한 것이다. 본 연구에서는 지난 10년간의 교육부 주도의 학술정책의 방향성과 교양교육과의 관계를 비판적으로 검토함으로써 한국 교양교육의 질적 내실화를 모색하고자 한다. 둘째, ‘당위적’ 차원에서 교양교육은 한 인간의 인격과 지성의 추구를 바탕으로 공동체의 일원을 양성하는 보편 교육을 담당하는 영역이다. 따라서 필자는 교양교육의 구체적 주제들의 제언함으로써 미래 세대를 위한 교양교육의 역할 강화에 기여하고자 한다. 이러한 관점은 비단 대학 내의 교양교육이라는 기존의 외연을 넘어 생애주기 차원에서의 평생교육은 물론 ‘자유시민, 세계시민, 디지털 시민’과 같이 현 시대가 요청하는 공동체 교육 내용을 공급할 수 있다는 점에서 우리 사회 전체의 성숙도를 높일 수 있으리라 기대한다.
Abstract
As crises in modern society emerge in various areas, the importance of education of liberal arts in university as universal education increases. However, the status of education of liberal arts in our society is still in crisis. Therefore, I would like to review the following two dimensions to strengthen the role of liberal arts education for future generations as well as the qualitative development of current education of liberal arts. Firstly, it concerns the ‘realistic’ dimension of the relationship between situation of universities as higher education institutions and liberal arts education of it. This study aims to improve the quality of Korean education of liberal arts by critically examining the direction of academic policies led by the Ministry of Education over the past decade and the relationship between education of liberal arts. Secondly, at the ‘justifiable’ dimension, education of liberal arts is a field of responsible for universal education which fosters members of the community based on the pursuit of a individual character and intelligence. Therefore, I would like to contribute to strengthening the role of education of liberal arts for future generations by suggesting specific topics. This perspective will contribute to lifelong education beyond the existing scope of education of liberal arts within universities, and it is also expected to raise the maturity of our society as a whole, as it can provide content of community education for which ‘liberal citizens, global citizens, and digital citizens.’
