Abstract

This qualitative study examines the transformation of women’s sports paradigms as represented in Korean television programs from 2008 to 2024. Drawing on Aristotelian philosophy and feminist critiques of sport, this research explores how women’s athletic embodiment and representation have evolved in the media. Through thematic analysis of twelve major programs and expert interviews, three core themes were identified: the re-embodiment of the female body as an active subject, the ethical turn of emotion and care, and the emergence of coexistential excellence. The findings suggest that women’s sports entertainment reconstructs athletic virtue (areté) not through competition and domination but through empathy, care, and collective growth. This shift challenges Aristotelian anti-feminist legacies that defined women as passive or deficient, reinterpreting the essence of sports as a philosophical and ethical practice within contemporary media culture.
