이 논문의 목적은 페미니즘 이론으로부터 직‧간접적인 영향을 받은 대표적 스포츠철학 연구들을 고찰함으로써 페미니즘 이론이 스포츠철학 연구와 어떤 방식으로 연계되고 있는지, 그리고 앞으로 스포츠철학의 학문적 발전에 어떠한 방식으로 기여할 수 있는지를 논구하는 데 있다. 페미니즘 운동이 영미권 국가에서 태동해 전개되어 왔기 때문에 스포츠에 대한 페미니즘 관점의 연구도 주로 영미권에 집중되어 온 것이 현실이다. 스포츠철학 연구에서 페미니즘에 관한 본격적인 논의는 1970년대 후반부터 북미 스포츠철학계를 중심으로 이루어졌다. 본고는 북미 스포츠철학계에 페미니즘 이론이 어떻게 수용되었으며, 수용되는 과정에서 어떤 논의들이 이루어졌는지, 그리고 페미니스트 스포츠철학자들이 추구한 주요 이론적 개념과 쟁점은 무엇이며 그것들이 어떠한 철학적 토대를 갖고 있는지 고찰함으로써 국내 스포츠철학 속 페미니즘 연구가 나아가야 할 방향에 관한 시사점을 모색하였다. 또한 스포츠철학 문헌에서 가장 많은 관심을 받아온 스포츠에 대한 남녀의 평등한 접근권, 스포츠의 가부장적 구조와 여성의 자율성, 그리고 성별에 따른 스포츠 분리와 통합에 관한 논의들을 고찰하고 그 의의를 제시하였다. 국내 스포츠철학 속 페미니즘 논의에 관한 연구를 거의 찾아볼 수 없는 현실에서 본 논문이 페미니즘에 대한 스포츠철학 연구자들의 학문적 관심을 환기하는 계기로 작용할 수 있길 기대한다.
Abstract
The goal of this article is to examine the representative studies in the philosophy of sport directly and indirectly influenced by feminist theory, how feminist theory is connected to sport philosophy research, and how it can contribute to the development of sport philosophy in the future. Since the feminist movement emerged and developed in Anglo-American countries, studies from a feminist perspective on sport have mainly focused on Anglo-American regions. In the field of the philosophy of sport, an in-depth discussion of feminism has revolved around North America since the late 1970s. This article examines how feminist theory was accepted in North American sport philosophy, what discussions were made in the process of the acceptance, what were the main theoretical concepts and issues pursued by feminist philosophers of sport, and on what philosophical foundation they were built. In doing so, my article looks forward to the direction a feminist approach to sport philosophy in South Korea might take. I also analyze discussions on equal access to sport, the patriarchal structure of sport and women’s autonomy, and the segregation and integration of sport according to gender, which have received the most attention in literature of the philosophy of sport. It is hoped that this article will cause sport philosophy researchers in Korea to be interested in feminist approaches to the field.
