초록
실험영화, 다큐멘터리, 단편영화 등의 예술영화가 교육적 가치를가지고 있음에도 불구하고 그동안 일선 초․중등 영화교육 현장에서 상업영화에 비해 상대적으로 많은 조명을 받지 못한 것이 사실이다. 본 연구는 이렇게 저평가된 예술영화의 교육적 가치를 담론화하고, 초․중등 학교교육에서 예술영화의 수용에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 이에 앞서 문화예술교육이라는 거대범주 속에 영화교육의 자리를 찾아보고, 예술영화의 개념에 대한 고찰이 선행될 것이다. 무엇보다도 예술영화를 일선 학교에 적용하는데 있어서 중요한 점은 예술영화를 읽는데 있어서 지나치게 이론 중심으로 흘러서는 안 된다는 것이다. 이처럼 지나치게 이론과 학문을 중심으로 한다면, 지나친 문화적 엘리트주의에 빠질 수 있기 때문이다. 문화예술교육으로서 영화교육은 고급문화와 대중문화의 차별화를 지양하고, 기존 고급문화로 인식되었던 예술영화에 대한 탈신비화가 함께 이루어져야할 것이다.
Abstract
Even though art cinema like experimental films, documentaries,short films has a pedagogical value, film teachers in primary and secondary schools have been not interested in it for a while. This study argues the discourse of art cinema in secondary school and explores art cinema as pedagogical text. The paper looks at the definition of culture and art education and art cinema. The study argues film education in the culture and arts education which are encouraging art education and active participation. In order to provide art cinema to secondary students, first of all, teachers should not focus on theoretical approach to the films. If we mainly teach what theory of art cinema is, we can lead students to elite culture as those high cultural forms and institutions.
