북한 소형드론 위협을 고려한 對드론체계 발전방안 연구

Abstract

This study aims to propose the concept of combat performance for anti-drone systems and a development plan for power enhancement to address the threat posed by small drones, one of the asymmetric threats in North Korea. It examines an understanding of drones and recent cases of domestic and international threats caused by small drones, then suggests countermeasures after analyzing the threat of small drones in North Korea. The small drone threat from North Korea should not be underestimated, as it can lead to a decrease in military credibility and societal chaos when utilized for attacks and terrorism against vital national and military installations and personnel. Additionally, with advancements in science and technology, drones are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and within the international environment of technology diffusion, drone threats are on the rise. Particularly, the possibility of low-intensity conflicts is heightened due to existing security threats on the Korean Peninsula. Since the late 1990s, North Korea has developed and deployed various types of drones, and since 2010, the threat posed by drones has been steadily increasing, including the comprehensive development of self-destructive and long-range drones. At the 8th Workers' Party convention in January 2021, Kim Jong-un instructed to "vigorously pursue key research projects for the development of reconnaissance equipment, including unmanned aerial vehicles." This is likely to further diversify North Korea's small drone threat and accelerate its development. Therefore, this study proposes the concept of combat performance for anti-drone systems and power enhancement as essential elements to address North Korea's small drone threat, presenting development plans to actively and flexibly respond to changes and threats in North Korea
