Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the soil and work-artist changes in the pages of the modern children’s magazine Shinsonyeon in the relationship between the trends of the time and the media, and to reveal the changes seen in the process of modern literary readers’ contributions and entry into established literary arts. This study reveals the formation and settlement of modern children’s literature, the characteristics of magazines, and the growth landscape of the boy writer group. Shinsonyeon utilized the reader submission system more actively than any other magazine of its time. This can be proven by the fact that the active young writers who participated in the reader submission in the 1920s not only participated in the magazine’s editing but also became the main contributors of the main column in the 1930s. It can also be confirmed by the fact that it was the first among the children’s magazines of its time to use the term ‘Juvenile Poetry’ in 1926, thereby helping the literary growth of young readers. It can also be seen that New Youth promoted a change in the magazine’s direction starting with the April 1928 issue, when it entrusted pages to young writers in large numbers. As the trends of the magazines in the 1930s became clear, Shinsonyeon went beyond the existing genre concept and led the practical trend of literature with works such as wall novels and stories. It was an attempt to accept works that contained the new zeitgeist in the true field of life, in accordance with the demands of the editorial staff who emphasized “new energy” and “a taste that seemed powerful.” Following the teachings of the established writers who hoped to write true works, the young readers’ literary group also adapted to the new changes. Unlike the contemporary KAPF writers who studied abroad or were intellectuals, the nature of Shinsonyeon was clear in the worker-peasant class nature of the writers from the readers’ literary group.
