외국인 직접투자가 한국 제약기업의 지식개발에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

초록

본 연구는 한국 제약산업 내 141개 기업을 대상으로 외국기업의 투자활동에서 비롯되는 지식확산이 1987년부터 1999년까지 한국기업의 지식개발에 미치는 영향을 실증 분석하였다. 외국기업의 투자활동에서 비롯되는 지식확산 효과를 분석하기 위해 국제 합작투자 효과와 기업의 자체적인 지식개발 효과를 동시에 고려하였다. 본 연구 결과에 의하면 외국기업의 투자활동에서 비롯되는 지식확산 효과는 한국기업의 지식개발에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 외국기업과의 합작투자는 오히려 한국기업의 지식개발 즉 신제품 개발과 특허출원 건수에 부정적인 영향을 미치지만 한국기업의 지식개발 능력은 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of knowledge spillovers from foreign direct investment on 141 Korean pharmaceutical firms’ knowledge development from 1987 to 1999. In order to analyze knowledge spillover effects from foreign direct investment, we consider the effects of knowledge transfer through international joint ventures and internal knowledge development. The results show that knowledge spillover from foreign direct investment does not affect knowledge development of Korean firms. Korean firms’ internal knowledge development is positively related with the number of patent application, but knowledge transfer effect through international joint ventures is negatively related with Korean firms’ knowledge development.
