Abstract

The origin of Lee Sung-Kyo's poetry was from the hometown. Although he has lived in a city, his space of imagination composed of recollections in his memory has been shaped in the poetic imagination solving symbols of hometown all the time. He managed to create the personalized poetic world as a poet from Gangwon-do and indigenous poet while reflecting the hometown with the prehistoric time and space on his works as the aggregate experience included in his conscience. Especially, what makes us pay attention to 'Mountain' as an image underlying the foundations of the poet Lee Sung-Kyo is thought to be the perception to the space representing the hometown Gangwon-do. 'Mountain' shown in his poetry is characterized not only by the nature in itself, but also with presenting the imagination projected as the personalized mountain closely in link with the life of human beings. His poetic imagination is revealed well in the representative image of 'Mountain', which depicts aspects of a traditional lyric poet with his indigenous languages. 'Mountain' has spread out the dynamic images having the mutual sympathy between the nature and human as the poetic materials representing the image of hometown at the same time, as well as the core image in his poem. We could understand finally through the image of mountains that the fundamental directions and spirits of the poem by the poet lie in the hometown and pure childish innocence in his childhood while comprehending that the poem is based on the image of motherhood as an original place of life.
