Abstract
Storytelling has been around for as long as humans have been able to speak; in fact, it was the only way we had to share our culture and history before we developed a system for complicated writing. Digital storytelling has evolved from an oral tradition to a digital display, although there are often differences between traditional linear narrative and digital non-linear storytelling. It offers readers a practical understanding of both the structure of traditional storytelling and the structure of interactive storytelling. Digital storytelling builds up by modifying and editing images, sound, narrative and text together with the available tools of the computer and internet, thereby being an interesting multi-media mix and giving interactive dimension to characters and insights. Therefore digital storytelling is personal multimedia tales via digital media, which is designed for facilitating narrative inquiry with individual and collaborative learning through multi-sequential ergodic storytelling. This knowledge helps the reader see why and how today's models of interactive fiction succeed and fail, and provides a foundation for developing new storytelling art forms and media that satisfactorily synthesize interaction and narrative. So that digital storytelling is the modern expression and twist of the ancient art of storytelling on the oral tradition, since stories and games are important social activities. Maybe we are about to move beyond technology, to enter what we called the post-digital era; the next step we've backed into is computing with quantum mechanics. The next paradigm shift requires us to adopt a different way of viewing the world, so that we need to do more than just extrapolate from our current position.
