Abstract
Human aging involves many changes, such as a decrease in muscular fitness, balance and mobility. Poor muscle strength of lower extremity, balance and mobility compromise independence inactivities of daily living and may lead to an increase in fall risk. Falls may cause fragility fractures and hence give rise to reduces quality of life and increased disability. The deleterious consequences asring from falls have driven researchers to seek effective interventions to modify fall-related risk factors in the elderly. Recently, whole body vibration is gaining popularity in training of various populations and a good number of studies have examined the effects of WBV on muscle strength, balance, mobility etc. Thus WBV training can be recommended as a effective and safe exercise intervention for fall prevention in the elderly.
