Abstract
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a 8-week community-based exercise intervention on falls and risk factors (balance, strength, mobility, body composition, cognitive function, and daily physical activity) in community-living older adults for reducing risks of osteoporotic fracture. METHODS: 121 elderly people took a participated and Ninety eight did exercise (3 times a week, 8 weeks) and twenty three were compared as control group. Primary outcome was improvement of physical fitness and mobility and it is supposed that the exercise intervention for falls prevention can improve quality of life as well as physical availability. RESULTS: Eight-week exercise intervention was on 41% of participants(n=294). Exercise program improved body composition (%fat), muscle endurance strength, static stability, mobility (p < .05). CONCLUSIONS: A community-based exercise intervention was effective in improving balance, mobility, and leg strength, all known fall risk factors. Future study was need to long-term and standardized exercise intervention and its prospective effectiveness.
