연구목적: 본 연구의 목적은 쓰기 매체가 태블릿 스크린인지 종이인지에 따라 유아의 쓰기흥미, 쓰기 운동조절, 그리고 쓰기 표현을 포함한 쓰기 발달이 다른지 살펴보는 것이다. 연구방법: 이를 위해 경기지역 유아교육기관에 재원 중인 취학 직전 유아 107명과 유아의 어머니를 연구대상으로 선정하였다. 유아는 자모 따라 쓰기 과제, 그림카드 쓰기 과제를 수행 한 후 쓰기흥미 인터뷰에 참여하였다. 유아의 어머니는 유아 및 가족의 특성에 관한 질문지에 응답하였다. 연구결과: 쓰기 흥미 측면에서, 유아는 종이보다 태블릿 스크린 쓰기에 더 큰 흥미를 보였다. 쓰기 운동조절 측면에서, 유아가 태블릿 스크린에 쓸 때 종이에 비하여 글자 크기가 크고, 쓰기 속도는 빠르며, 쓰기 압력이 낮고, 쓰기 시간이 짧았다. 쓰기 표현 측면에서, 유아가 태블릿 스크린에 쓸 때 종이에 비하여 쓰기 유창성 수준이 낮고, 띄어쓰기와 방향성 규칙을 덜 지켰다. 결론: 이 연구는 쓰기 매체로서 새롭게 대두되고 있는 태블릿 스크린을 기존의 매체인 종이와 비교하여 쓰기 매체로서 태블릿 스크린이 가지는 강점과 약점을 밝혔다. 즉, 종이에 비해 태블릿 스크린은 쓰기 흥미에서 유리하지만, 유아가 또박또박 글자를 쓰거나 유창하고 관습적인 글을 쓰는 데 약점이 있음을 확인하였다.
Abstract
Objective: This study examined the effects of the difference in friction between two distinct writing surfaces—tablet screen and paper—on writing interest, graphomotor control, and written expression. Method: A total of 107 children, who were enrolled in kindergartens and child-care centers in Gyeonggi Province, and their mothers were the study participants. Alphabet copying and writing picture card tasks were conducted. An interview was conducted to inquire about each child’s writing interests. The mothers were asked to complete a questionnaire about the characteristics of their family and children. Results: First, young children indicated greater interest in writing on a tablet screen, as compared to writing on paper. Second, the comparison of the writing samples created using the tablet screen and the paper indicated larger letter size, faster writing velocity, lower writing pressure, and shorter writing duration on the tablet screen. Finally, the comparison between the tablet screen and paper also indicated lower writing fluency, spacing, and directionality on the tablet screen. Conclusion: The study shows the advantages and disadvantages of writing on a tablet screen, as compared to writing on paper. Although the tablet screen provides advantages in terms of promoting writing interest among young children, it also presents significant disadvantages in terms of writing clearly or writing fluently and conventionally. Moreover, smoother tablet surfaces require additional control of handwriting movements, which may present further challenges for beginning writers.
