Abstract

Hebrews 4:12-13 has two lo,goj within the brief pericope. Using “double-lo,goj” the writer of Hebrews systemizes 4:12-13 to render a cohesive message about the Word of God. In the history of exegesis almost all interpreters translated two lo,goj differently: the first lo,goj as ‘the word (of God)’ and the second lo,goj as ‘account’ or ‘response(even judgment).’ This interpretation is also dominant in Korean translation. But it could be somewhat disputable to let the twice-used same lo,goj translate differently within the short paragraph. Some modern scholars are unsatisfied with this vulnerable interpretation and throw some fleshlight on this clause. They argue that it is more adequate, to interpret two lo,goj as the same meaning. The present paper reviews positively the modern exegesis of this pericope. This paper also tries to analyze the rhetorical structure and meaning of the Hebrews 4:13c(proj. o]n h`mi/n o` lo,goj), the most enigmatic phrase in this clause, and to give an appropriate Korean translation.
