초록
In A General Theory of Crime, Gottfredson and Hirschi(1990)argue that self-control, fully developed in the early stage of life(around age 8 to 10), is a primary explanatory factor of deviance. The purpose of this study is to test the stability of self-control which is suggested by Gorrfredson and Hirschi. If it does not be empirically verified, it should be re-examined for finding the actual cause of change of self-control. The analysis and findings reported here are derived from data extracted from data of the Korean Youth Panel Survey(KYPS)from a sample of about 3,400 elementary school students from 2004 to 2008. With these aims in mind, we applied semiparametric group ‐ based model and logistic regression. The results were as follows: First Approximately 80% of the youth was stability of self-control and approximately 20% of adolescents was ‘self-control decline' group that decrease self-control in over time. Second, 'negative parenting attitudes',‘parent attachment', ‘teacher attachment' had a significant effect on the change of self-control. Third, Gottfredson and Hirschi claimed the formation of self-control period is up to the age of 10. However, in this study, self-control had been falling for 15years. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed together with suggestions for future studies.
