이 연구는 의례가 문화형성과 공동체의 변형에 미치는 영향을 밝히고 의례가 갖는 치유기능의 탐색을 목표로 한다. 필자는 목회돌봄과 목회상담이 개인의 내면과 안녕을 추구함과 더불어 공적영역에 대한 이해를 돌봄의 현장에 어떻게 적용할 것인가에 대한 고민으로 의례에 집중하였다. 본 연구는 기독교 철학자인 제임스 스미스와 더불어 크리포드 기어츠를 비롯한 문화인류학자들이 이룩한 의례연구와의 대화를 통해 치유문화와 치유공동체를 형성하는 의례의 역할에 초점을 둔다. 필자는 의미를 갖는 반복된 실천행위인 의례가 몸을 가진 물리적 존재인 인간이 삶의 궁극적인 사랑의 대상을 상상하고 사랑의 의미를 창조하면서 오감을 통해 무의식에 그 영향을 반영하는 기제임을 설명한다. 또한 몸으로 의례에 참여하는 인간은 의례 수행을 통해 사회의 일부분인 사회적 몸이 된다. 본 연구에서 필자가 주목하는 의례의 기능은 문화의 변화를 반영하며 이를 통해 문화와 사회를 변화시키는 의례화이다. 사회문화의 변화는 개인과 공동체의 변화를 추동하는 갈등을 일으키고, 개인과 공동체는 이에 대해 의례화를 수행하면서 새로운 정체성을 형성한다. 창조된 새로운 정체성은 문화의 변형에 근간이 된다. 이 연구는 인간의 모임이 단순한 집단이 아니라 이상향을 품고 삶을 나누며 변화를 포용하는 공동체가 되는 것은 의례의 역할에 달려 있음을 밝히고자 한다.
Abstract
This study aims toexamines the caring and healing functions of a ritual by reviewing the formation of culture and transformation of the community. This study focuses on a ritual with the question of how pastoral care and counseling seek not only healing of the individual inner self but also the social and public wellbeing. Thus, this study tries attempts to make create a dialogue between pastoral care and a Christian philosopher, James Smith, as well as anthropologists who conduct research on a ritual, such as Clifford Geertz, Victor Turner and Tom Driver. I describe suggest that a ritual, which is included imbued with meaning by repeated practices, with meanings is a basic human mechanism through which humans imagine an ultimate loving subject, create the meanings in theof bodily actions, and consequently reflect on the meanings on in their unconsciousness. Humans participate in the rituals by through bodily performance which also makes them the part of the social body. This study is particularly interested focused on in the ritualization that mirrors the cultural change and, furthermore, changes the culture and the society. Sociocultural changes cause conflicts in the individual self and community, which incite them to create a new identity. This study proposes that the meaningful transformation of human gatherings to become the a community where the ideal goal is endured, human life is shared, and changes are embraced depends on the role of a ritual.
