신앙공동체의 일상의례 분석과 개입을 통한 치유의례의 기능 연구

인간은 의례 수행을 통해 소속 문화를 익히고 구성원으로서의 정체성을 획득하며 집단의 응집력을 형성해 왔다. 인간의 모임이 단순한 집단이나 조직체가 아니라 상호 공감과 사랑의 삶을 바탕으로 한 공동체로 변형되기 위해 의례의 역할은 중요하다. 인간의 내면과 외부환경의 상호작용 방식으로서 의례는 변화하는 환경에 맞춰 기존 의례를 유지, 변형, 재창조하면서 정체성을 형성하고 수정하며 곤고히 한다. 본 연구는 이상과 가치의 표현방식인 의례가 신앙공동체의 문화형성과 공동체의 변형에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 의례 수행을 통하여 내면의 고통에 대한 치유의 가능성을 탐색하고자 시도되었다. 연구를 위해 필자는 에릭슨의 의례화 이론을 바탕을 두고, 30-40대로 구성된 한 신앙공동체를 대상으로 문화기술지 연구방법에 입각하여 참여관찰과 심층면담을 중심으로 한 연구조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과에 대한 분석을 통해 필자는 인간의 내면과 외부환경을 연결하는 신앙공동체의 의례가 변화하는 문화와 환경에 대처하고 과거의 상처와 고통을 이해하며 새로운 정체성을 형성하는 수단이 되고 있음을 발견하였다.
Abstract
Humans have learned their culture through ritual practices by acquiring their identity as group members and forming collective cohesion. The role of rituals is important in the process of transforming human gatherings into a community based on mutual empathy and love, not just a group or organization. As a way of interaction between the inner and outer environments of human beings, rituals maintain, transform, and recreate existing communities in accordance with changing environments—forming, modifying, and solidifying individual as well as community identity. The aim of this study is to analyze how rituals, as ways of expressing ideals and values of a community, are used to transform communities, and also to explore the possibility of healing inner pain through the practice of rituals. For this study, I studied Erikson’s ritualization theory, and also conducted participant observation and in-depth interviews based on the anthropological method for a Christian faith community composed of people in the 30-40 year age range. Through the analysis of the results of the study, I found that the rituals of the faith community connecting the inner and outer environments of human beings are the means to cope with changing cultures and environments, to understand the wounds and sufferings of the past, and to form a new identity.
