초록
The purpose of this study is to understand the spiritual experience of the participants in existential therapy group counseling and to explore the essential themes and meaning in the spiritual experience. The research was conducted based on Max van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological method that is considered as proper for revealing the participant's experience as it is. The research process was followed by: focusing on the essence of experience; describing the participants' experiential statements; existential investigation; reflecting the essential subject; and doing the hermeneutic phenomenological writing and correction. The participants for this study were a man and 11 women total 12 who participated wholly in existential therapy group counseling and interested in spirituality. Data were collected by using intensive interviews and observations and were transcribed totally by researcher. To analyze the data, researcher tried to understand the meanings of the participants' experiences by reading the verbatim over and over again concentrating participants' reponses and feeling expressions. The topic descriptions were classified according to the subjects having the same or similar meanings. The subjects were transformed into the best disciplinary expressions of spirituality. Finally 27 sub-themes were derived and then were combined into 8 main-themes. The essential themes which the participants experience during the group are as follows: <overcoming the pain and despair> <changing the perspective> <being aware of the meaning of being and calling consciousness> <experiencing the spiritual union with God> <accepting and understanding the reality> <having a humor and recovering the composure> <having a joy, gratitude and hope> <devoting to and helping others>. These themes turned out to have an interrelational structure each other and to be experienced in our life specifically. And they can propose the actual direction for pastoral counseling and it can make the pastoral counseling more therapeutical and effective.
