Abstract
This study explores the experiences of psychodrama participants and the existential meanings embedded within those experiences, using a qualitative participant-observation approach. From May to November 2024, three psychodrama groups were observed, and in-depth interviews were conducted with twelve individuals who participated in the roles of director, protagonist, auxiliary ego, and audience. Following the thematic analysis procedures proposed by Braun and Clarke (2006), a total of 48 meaning units, 20 subthemes, and 9 overarching themes were identified. The analysis revealed that participants expanded their self-understanding and emotional change through bodily sensations, affective expression, relational interactions, and the reorganization of temporal experience within scenes. These experiential processes led to emotional awareness, relational restoration, and the reconstruction of personal life narratives, thereby forming existential meaning. This study proposes a structural understanding of existential experience that emerges in psychodrama and suggests implications for its application in counseling and group therapy settings.
