Abstract

This study started with a sense of problem in which human rights and human rights education are biased toward cognitive aspects that value reason, and the role in human rights and emotions in human rights education is not properly addressed. Human rights are a Western concept, and power contributes to interests, is symbolic, ambiguous, and even abstract. Human rights education could not lead to an action with a knowledge-based approach under the assumption of popularism and could not pay attention to the contribution of emotions. However, emotions in human rights and human rights education are inevitably deeply involved. When people faced with human rights issues, rights are mobilized by various forms of emotions, resulting in specific emotional consequences. Suffering and human rights are also closely connected to the extent that analyzing suffering caused by human rights violations and their pain can be a major task in human rights history. So I suggest an alternative affective pedagogy of human rights education. It was revised Hung’s affective pedagogy to overcome limitation of Rorty’s sentimental education. The alternative affective pedagogy of human right education emphasizes the principle of mutual vulnerability, the pedagogical principle of discomfort, and the value of empathy that have been neglected so far. And I suggest goal, curriculum and the principle of implementation of alternative affective pedagogy of human rights education.
