초록
This paper examines the longitudinal changes of EU external perceptions in South Korea by analysing the key findings of the related existing researches undertaken since the 2000s. The perception studies are mainly divided into two categories: Media Analysis and Public Opinion Survey. The EU-Korea relationship has burgeoned over the past few decades, and five rounds of the studies have been conducted to figure out the media and public images of the EU in South Korea. The major findings of the comparison are twofold: first, news frames have been diversified; and second, the news focus has moved from the EU itself to the EU as a partner of South Korea. However, although a remarkable development of the EU-Korea relationship, South Koreans' perception on the EU has not much changed. They are still thinking that the bilateral relationship is 'neither good or bad'. Since the Korean peninsular involves major power countries, there seem to be some limitations in reporting the EU in South Korea. In order to enhance the visibility and perception of the EU, it needs to establish a stable and constant communication channel with South Korean media as well as the public by taking advantage of social media.
