초록

This article examines the discourse of the “Two Koreas” through the analytical lens of the interplay between strategic constraints and identity politics. Existing scholarship has predominantly approached the division of the Korean Peninsula from historical-structural, international power-political, or inter-Korean identity conflict perspectives, each confined to specific temporal or thematic contexts. However, few studies have offered an integrated and diachronic analysis that systematically connects these dimen-sions from the inception of division to its contemporary manifestations. Employing a constructivist framework that bridges material and ideational factors, this study con-tends that the interaction between externally imposed structural conditions and inter-nally generated identity conflicts has produced a state of hostile coexistence, thereby entrenching the Two-Korea system as a durable political and ideational order. Ultimate-ly, the “Two Koreas” discourse should be understood not merely as a descriptive reflec-tion of the divided reality but as a constitutive discursive and strategic structure that both reproduces and legitimizes the division of the Korean Peninsula.
