초록
This study investigates how undergraduate translation and interpreting majors use generative AI when translating Korean entertainment content, with particular attention to humorous and culturally embedded video clips. Such content laden with Koreaspecific humor and culturebound expressions proved to be highly suitable material for exploring strengths and limitations of generative AI translation; Students noted that AI excels at generating naturalsounding English expressions but often struggles with culturally embedded elements such as Korean humor, situational nuance, neologisms, and familyrelated cultural norms. Because the students held a privileged understanding of the source content as native speakers of Korean, they experimented with a range of prompts to obtain outputs that better captured its humor and nuanced meanings. The analysis of students' translations and reflective commentaries showed that learners employed AI in a variety of strategic ways throughout the translation process. These findings highlight the need to strengthen learners' linguistic and cultural competence and develop their ability to design effective prompts and strategically incorporate AI output. The study concludes that AI should function not as a replacement for human translators but as a tool that supports expanded translational reasoning and creative problemsolving. This also underscores the need for translation courses to select suitable content that allows students to apply AI in varied and effective ways.
