임계매출감소분석을 통한 국내 강관산업의 상품시장 획정

본 연구는 임계매출감소분석과 실증적 지표에 기초하여 국내 강관시장의 상품시장 획정을 시도하였다. ERW 강관의 경우 5%와 10% 가격인상 모두에 대해 실제매출감소율이 임계매출감소율보다 작은 것으로 나타났으며, SAW 강관의 경우에도 두 가격인상 수준에 대해 실제매출감소율이 임계매출감소율보다 작게 추정되었다. 이는 ERW 강관과 SAW 강관이 서로 다른 독립시장으로 획정되어야 함을 의미한다. 실용적 지표를 활용한 정성적 분석도 ERW 강관과 SAW 강관이 제품특성과 사용용도, 제조방식과 설비 및 기술특성, 생산비용의 경제성, 구매자, 판매자를 비롯한 업계 인식 등에 있어 현격한 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과에 비추어 볼 때, ERW 강관과 SAW 강관은 비록 같은 강관산업에 속해 있지만 각자 독자적 특성을 지닌 독립된 시장을 형성한다고 보는 것이 타당할 것이다.
Abstract
This study attempted to define the product market of the domestic steel pipe industry using critical loss analysis and qualitative empirical evidence. In the case of Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) steel pipes, the actual sales loss rate was much smaller than the critical sales loss rate for both 5% and 10% price increases. Similar results were obtained in the case of Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) steel pipes. Qualitative analysis using practical indicators showed significant differences between ERW and SAW steel pipes in terms of the characteristics of the products, their intended uses, manufacturing methods, equipment and technical characteristics, economic efficiency of production costs, and the perception of industry participants. Based on these results, we concluded that ERW steel pipe and SAW steel pipe should be defined as separate and independent markets, even though they belong to the same steel pipe industry.
