초록
This article attempts to interpret Gerard Manley Hopkins’ “Epithalamion” revealing homosexual tendency in the light of Oxford Hellenism and his romantic friendship with Digby Dolben. Hopkins’ poetry cannot be fully understood in a vacuum where we do not take into account the pederastic revival caused by Oxford Hellenism and his same-sex desire. Based on biographical data about Hopkins which did not published until 1898, I examine Hopkins’ homosexual desire and his liberal thoughts. In conclusion, although “Epithalamion” is incomplete in form, it is incomplete completion because it reached Hopkins’ final goal, the self God thinks that is good.
