In this study, the strategies to be used in the burdensome requests to the close friends of the same sex were analyzed among Korean and Japanese male university students. The analysis items were 8 requesting behaviors in 7 conversations in the Korean and 11 requesting behaviors in 9 conversations in the Japanese. The time to deliver the requesting intention from the requesters to the requestees in the Japanese was longer than in the Korean. Also, the requesters used the various strategies to see the responses from the requestees before the delivery of request intention, including (1) mentioning on the request rationale, (2) asking the information on the request contents, (3) provision of the information on the request contents, (4) asking the information on the recent state, (5) asking the interest of the requestees, and (6) delivery of requesters' desires. Out of these, only (6) strategy was shown in the Japanese. The requesters could understand the ideas of the requestees on the request contents with these strategies. This was impacted not only to the imposition level on the requests of the requesters but also to the strategies after the delivery of request utterance.
