Schelling’s Philosophical Inquiries into the Essence of Human Freedom in 1809 is an important work in many perspectives. It shows, how his Identity Philosophy proceeds in this period, as well as build an excellent example of idealistic inquiry about the most important concept in Ethics, namely the freedom. This work is generally researched by ethical or theological view. Although it has provided outstanding status for this writing in the history of philosophy, it still has to be thought, that Essence of Human Freedom stands under great influence of his philosophy of nature. His early philosophy handles mainly the natural philosophical subjects, and its results are well presented in his philosophical system, which he has already completed about 1801. In Essence of Human Freedom Schelling wanted to adapt the ‘reellen’ principles of philosophy of nature into the ‘ideellen’ territory. Because of this reason Essence of Human Freedom must also treated from the view of the philosophy of nature. My article tries to trace the origins of natural philosophy in Schelling’s work, which is in tradition so far relatively less treated.
